Customer Review: GPS works great on my PDA
I love this product. It allows me to us my PDA as a GPS. The only drawback is that it takes a lot of memory, but if you move it to your SD card you will not have a problem.
Customer Review: Brick
I’ve read some of the reviews and they mostly hit the mark. The software is easy to use. The maps are good (up to a point) and the receiver is good at getting a signal. Unfortunately, the company isn’t. The maps are outdated when you buy them. You can’t update the maps without buying everything over again. The software had to be downgraded to work on my Palm T|X - memory overrun issues. I too never heard from Tomtom about my gps antenna issue - the battery swelled and stopped holding any charge. I won’t be using their product again.

In-car navigation has never been easier - or more affordable. Our StreetPilot “c-series” GPS navigators feature a simple touchscreen interface, with automatic route calculation to any destination and turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions along the way. Selecting a destination is straightforward and requires only a limited amount of input from the user. Plus, the StreetPilot c320 and StreetPilot c330 allow you to choose between a three-dimensional navigation view or the more traditional “bird’s eye” overhead view.
For the ultimate out-of-the-box convenience, the StreetPilot c330 comes preprogrammed with highly detailed MapSource City Select street data. The database features nearly six million points of interest?including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. (The c320 comes with a 128 MB SD card and a MapSource City Select CD-ROM for data transfer from a PC via a USB connection.)
As an added benefit, you can now import customized points of interest with the help of Garmin’s free POI Loader software. The possibilities are endless - upload safety cameras or school zones, and you will receive a warning if you are traveling too fast. In addition, an optional proximity-alert feature notifies you of upcoming custom POIs.
The centerpiece of both units is a bright, 3.5-inch diagonal, 16-bit color display that makes navigation a snap. The StreetPilot c330 features dual integrated speakers for high-quality voice prompts, and an internal lithium-ion battery for out-of-car route planning.
The new StreetPilot c-series boasts distinctive and sleek styling?the only buttons are a rotary volume knob and an on/off switch. The device is secured by a suction-mount cradle that fastens to the windshield for easy portability between vehicles.
Customer Review: Garmin StreetPilot c330- Simple, useful
I purchased the Refurbished Garmin StreetPilot c330 for my girlfriend who was always calling me for directions. The unit is ready to go right out of the box, almost no set up required. While not as customizable as my TomTom One, it has all the features that someone will need to keep from getting lost. This older model is perfect for someone who is intimidated by tech gadgets. It locates itself rather quickly, the driving directions and POI’s are easy to use. I would reccomend this for anyone wanting a small simple gps.
Customer Review: Great GPS
I’ll keep it short, this is a great, easy to use and solid GPS. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles of some of the newer models and it is a bit on the larger side but it always gets me where I want to go. I would give it 5 stars for what it is factoring in the price. I paid about $130 for this a while back which was a good deal then and now for $99 with free shipping it’s a steal. It’s nice and loud and is generally pretty smart about re-routing. My next GPS will for sure be a GARMIN, just a newer model with traffic and street name pronunciation.

Customer Review: Works well
Works well for directions and blue tooth speaker phone. Recently Garmin has discontinued this item. Not sure what the effect on support will be?
Customer Review: 150$ Well worth Every Penny!
Now at the low cost of 150$ which includes the latest map update from Garmin, free downloadable extras from Garmin’s website when you register. Anti-theft protection, MP3 Player, Text to speech, a free year of MSN Direct service (Which has provided accurate movie listings and traffic information, gas prices can sometimes be outdated)as well as accurate directions. My few slight gripes- POI database is not as updated and complete as I’d like it to be, but you can save many custom locations in your favorite file One way streets, I live in Milwaukee, a medium sized city, so you’d think the information in the newest downloadable maps would be updated and complete, not the case! Often when I’m downtown the unit tells me to turn the wrong way on a one way street. I know this is njot necessarily Garmin’s fault, but the map software company’s, however if Garmin uses them they should ensure they are getting the most up-dated and accurate maps. Overall for the low price an amazing unit!

Talk about simple. The portable StreetPilot c550 comes ready-to-go right out of the box with preloaded maps and plenty of options. This navigator delivers the same, easy-to-use, affordable navigation as the Garmin’s popular selling c300 series with many enhancements like Bluetooth wireless technology with hands-free calling, an integrated traffic receiver, MP3 player, plus much more.
Customer Review: Garmin StreetPilot c550 GPS
Right out of the box this GPS was easy to use and very helpful. I just returned from Phoenix, AZ. and this GPS was so very helpful. I originally bought it for my other half who is very low tech. She even loves this GPS. I am thinking of buying another for our oldest daughter and me to share for when we have to go out of town. I am giving it 5 stars. This is the only GPS I have ever owned so I cannot compare it to anything else but why would I need anything else when I am happy with this one.
Customer Review: First time GPS Owner - Very impressed
I purchased this as my first GPS for a family vacation. Researched quite a few and decided upon the c550 because of brand name and simplicity. Overall a great little device, very intuitive, easy to use. Got us to where we wanted to go “most (99%)” of the time. Two preprogrammed locations, a Toy Train museum in PA and a restaurant in GA were way off. The first landed us at a very nice Amish farmers house - not many toy electric trains there and the second, for the restaurant, in an office park. Both locations several miles off. I’ll report the details on the Garmin page to see if future updates make corrections. Only one additional trip point can be added to a trip but you can change them out as you go. Apparently with MapSource products by Garmin, purchased separately, you can add more - I’m not clear on this - still learning the difference between waypoints, trip points, points of interest, etc. At any rate I hope this is changed in future updates. The Bluetooth sync’d to my phone and works very well as a speaker phone. It has MP3 capability but in my opinion you get better sound quality from an old AM transistor radio and this is just a feature I will not use. The provided mounting is a bit cumbersome. I would prefer it come with a friction mount, an available option, but the suction devices do work. I’ll be adding an optional friction mount… The voice directions are very computer like sometimes the pronunciation is off but is usually understandable. The GTM 20 Traffic Message Channel is extremely convenient and does a great job of helping to avoid traffic jams. Overall I really like my new gadget! Update: C550 GTM 20 Blowing its Fuse The following is a problem I am having with the GTM 20 integrated FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) traffic receiver, antenna and cigarette lighter adapter supplied with the c550. I have reported this via email and telephone to Garmin. The Garmin Tech - who was very helpful - said this is a first and is exchanging the GTM 20 for one from the factory. Here is the reported issue:”The GTM 20 supplied with my new c550 blows its fuse every time I plug it into either of my vehicles, car and van, lighter outlets. The fuse blows with or when power is applied to the lighter outlet regardless of whether or not the c550 is attached. I returned my orgianl brand new c550 to Circuit City because after 2 weeks of flawless performance it started exhibiting this behavior. Now, out of the box this c550’s GTM 20 is doing the same. All other 12v adapters for phone, etc work properly in both vehicles. As noted above the c550 I just returned worked perfectly for about 2 weeks, in both automobiles and now this new, out of the box c550s GTM 20 is doing the same thing.” FURTHER UPDATE: I received the replacement GTM 20 for my c550 directly from Garmin and it is working perfectly in both vehicles, it has not blown its fuse yet. The first GTM 20 worked for about 2 weeks, the second failed right out of the box. Both units came from the same Circuit City store. While waiting for the replacement GTM I purchased a standard Garmin 12 volt car adapter and it works correctly in both vehicles. I’m sure Garmin engineers designed and completely tested the GTM 20 before going to production and that in the lab and all subsequent evaluations it performed to standard. If my latest GTM 20 continues to work then I believe Garmin may have a defective lot of GTM 20s out there. If this new GTM fails after a few weeks of use then I believe there potentially may be an issue with their manufacturer. I would encourage you to call Garmin tech support if you experience this, endure the wait - enjoy the on hold music, and report your issue. I spoke with a gentleman named Scott and he was very helpful. I did receive a response from the initial e-mail inquiry I sent their tech support and basically they said they had never heard of the problem, have a great day…. Telephone was the way to go.

Customer Review: Garmon 705 bike computer
Very easy to use.A real help for the avid bike rider who wants their heart rate data, their cadance and ascent imformation
Customer Review: Coool unit!
Should have gotten the faster shipping because I *love* this unit! It is great fun to see the way your heart and cadence interact with the map. Do I need this? No! Do I think it is a great way to be a geek and have fun? Yes! My only complaint with Garmin is that they need to get their new service online. They’ve owned MotionBased for awhile now and they are supposed to be making a “free” version available that will allow unlimited uploads. They need to get this done more quickly. Only other nit is that you shouldn’t bother with the non-street map version. It galls me that you have to spend another $100 for a unit that should have maps built-in already (let’s face it… The Edge 705 is *not* an inexpensive toy!). Without the maps, the granularity of the GPS mapping data is pretty much useless. It only has the most major of streets.

Customer Review: Wonderful but moody
I got it after extensive research. It worked wonderful for first few days but then at times it was completely lost. It would simply forget which way I was headed and would start recalculating even though I was following its precise directions! At one point I got so annoyed that I was almost on the verge of returning it but then the problem self corrected. So far working fine otherwise.
Customer Review: Great product. I’m happy!
This is Day 1 for me. Not much instruction comes with the unit, but it’s intuitive. If you’ve a cellphone or a digital camera, then you should be able to figure out how this works. The voice directions are clear and easy to follow. If I don’t follow its directions, the re-calculate happens within seconds. One thing I’m concerned is that it doesn’t say which side of the street the destination is on. I went to 2 POI (a grocery store and a hotel) and both times it didn’t give that info. I hope it does have this feature when I use it at other places. I wish it doesn’t take so many menus to change from faster time to shortest distance and vice versa. It should be an option that’s prompted for every route (like Magellan’s).

Customer Review: TomTom Really New?
The Tom Tom I bought as new was missing seval excessaries. Company said they would send them. I’m still waiting. The Tom Tom made a noise when removed from packaging. Contacted Tom Tom Company, They requested I send it to them. Since one area of the Tom Tom was missing a cover over an area, They indicated that the unit might have been a refurbuished unit and not new.
Customer Review: For those whom say it doesn’t read street names…
I just purchased the tomtom one xl-s (the unit itself only says xl not xl-s, BUT when I power it on, it says xl-s on the opening screen) and was going through a lot of trial and error with it. Some say that it doesn’t say street names; I was having the same problem. I found out that you have to use the ’susan’ “computer” female voice only, not in combination with the ‘human’ voice because if you do that, it will not read the street names. If you use susan all by herself, she reads the street names. The xl unit does not read street names but the xl-s does. Go see the chart on the product page here and it will show you that. I’ve also been going through heck trying to see if this thing “dings” when you’re about to make a turn; for this price, it should have all the bells & whistles!

Customer Review: zumo 550
I do like my Zumo, it gives me more confidence when I am out riding. It seem like every time I pick it up I learn something new about it. TomTom is going for the ultimate in portability with the 2008 ONE 130 and ONE 130S by integrating a nifty fold-out mount right into the devices. No more trying to figure out where to stash that big, clunky mount in your car — just pop it off, fold it up and carry the whole thing in your pocket. Of course, the ONE 130 series also features the plug and play ease of use, rock-solid navigation, and sleek designs we’ve come to expect from TomTom.
The ONE 130S adds text-to-speech to the base 130 model. This means instead of hearing “turn right in 50 feet”, you’ll hear, “turn right in 50 feet at Ohio Street”. In our experience, this is probably the most useful step-up feature for a GPS navigator, and if your looking at the 130, we’d definitely recommend stepping up to at least the 130S.

QuickGPSfix
Starting up can seem like a slow business, particularly if you’re in a hurry, because the GPS receiver needs to know exactly where each GPS satellite is to calculate your location. But satellites only broadcast their positions once every 30 seconds. So if any of their signals are interrupted, for example by passing high buildings, the whole position-fixing process has to repeat itself again and again until the perfect fix is achieved. QuickGPSfix takes a smarter approach.
QuickGPSfix can speed up the time it takes to fix your GPS position by downloading the latest satellite data via an Internet connection. Just connect your TomTom device to your computer and TomTom HOME automatically downloads `QuickGPSfix’ - a special GPS data file that helps your TomTom fix your position quicker, even when the GPS signal is weak or partially blocked.
This unique free service - which comes as standard with the GO (920/720/520/910/710/510) and ONE (XL/New Edition) helps you fix your position and get navigating faster than ever.
On the road or no access to TomTom HOME?
Get the same `QuickGPSfix’ data by simply connecting to any TomTom PLUS service, using a wireless data connection (GO 920/720/520/910/710/510 and ONE XL/3RD EDITION and 2nd Edition). As soon as a connection is established, the `QuickGPSfix’ data is automatically updated.
Note: QuickGPSfix data has limited validity. So to keep on getting a faster position-fix, re-connect your device at least once a week.
To minimise the amount of data sent over your wireless data connection, this automatic update is only carried out if the data on your device is over 5 days old. The associated data usage of this service is less than 10 Kb per connection. Please contact your mobile service provider to determine the exact costs. To disable this automatic update, just select `Disable Auto QuickGPSfix’ on your TomTom device.
